Today’s special guest on the Florida Right to Clean Water’s “Clean Water Casting” podcast is Laurilee Thompson of Brevard County. With generational insights of how Florida used to be, her stories are compelling reminders of WHY we’re fighting so hard for the Right to Clean Water.

Laurilee’s earliest memories are of running wild and free on her grandfather’s fishing pier. As soon as she could hold one, a fishing pole was gifted and thus began a life-long love of fishing and the outdoors. She commercially fished the Indian River Lagoon as a teen and worked her way up to running commercial longline fishing boats in the South Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico. Laurilee left the sea in 1987 to join her family at Titusville’s Dixie Crossroads Seafood Restaurant, where she is now co-owner. She has served on a variety of tourism, growth management, environmental, and fishery boards. No longer a hunter of fish, Laurilee now concentrates on the restoration of her beloved Indian River Lagoon.
